A-Reece, born Lehlogonolo Ronald Mataboge in 1997, grows up in Danville, Pretoria, writing raps from primary school in the footsteps of his older brother, Jay Jody. Signed to Ambitiouz Entertainment in 2015, he breaks through with 'Couldn't' featuring Emtee and releases the debut album Paradise (2016) — then leaves the label in late 2016 over financial disputes, co-founding The Wrecking Crew and building one of South African hip hop's most durable independent catalogues.
The gamble holds. He is Lyricist of the Year at the South African Hip Hop Awards in 2016 and again in 2021, when Today's Tragedy, Tomorrow's Memory also takes Mixtape of the Year. P2: The Big Hearted Bad Guy (2023) debuts at number one in South Africa; Kill The King, his 2024 mixtape with PistolWhipPapi, draws three million Spotify streams in a week. Business As Usual arrives in September 2025 on Revenge Club Records.
