Ami Faku is an Afro-soul and R&B vocalist from Gqeberha in the Eastern Cape. Born Amanda Faku in 1993, she sang in church choirs from the age of six in eZinyoka township and reached a national audience as a contestant on the second season of The Voice SA in 2017. Her work sets a warm, hymn-schooled Xhosa vocal against soul, house and amapiano production.
Her debut album Imali (2019) entered the South African chart at number one and went gold, and in 2020 she won Female Artist of the Year at the SAMAs while Deezer named her the country's most-streamed female artist. 'Abalele', with Kabza De Small and DJ Maphorisa, won Most Streamed Song of the Year at the 2022 SAMAs; 'Into Ingawe', with Sun-El Musician, is certified triple platinum. In 2024 'Ndisize', a collaboration with Caiiro, debuted at number one.
