Benjamin Dube was born in Johannesburg in 1962 and was singing gospel at seven, performing with his siblings as the Dube Family singers. After his father was murdered in 1976, music became the family's means of telling his story. Dube rose to prominence in the early 1980s as a singer, guitarist and pianist, and his catalogue of gold- and platinum-certified albums moves between choral gospel and contemporary worship.
The In His Presence series, running since 2007, is his signature; Glory in His Presence won Best Contemporary Faith Music Album at the 2020 South African Music Awards, where he also received a Lifetime Achievement honour. He leads High Praise Centre in Vosloorus as its General Overseer, released Legendary in His Presence (2023) and its 2024 sequel, and in April 2025 announced his exit from Spirit of Praise, having appeared on all but the collective's first two live recordings.
