Bio
Dr Tumi is the recording name of Tumisang Makweya, born in Seshego, Limpopo, in 1981 — a practising medical doctor who never gave up the day job. He sang in church from childhood, qualified at Medunsa, now Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University, and won the SABC2 Gospel Star competition in 2012, the springboard for a career of measured, scripture-rooted worship music.
His debut album Heart of a King took Best RnB Gospel at the 2012 SABC Crown Gospel Music Awards, and the Gathering of Worshippers live series became his trademark, capped by the 2017 recording at Johannesburg's Ticketpro Dome. The 15-track live album Love and Grace reached gold status within two months of release. He continues to split his weeks between the consulting room and the stage, medicine and ministry running in parallel.
