Khuzani is Khuzani Mpungose, born in 1989 in Nkandla, deep in maskandi's KwaZulu-Natal heartland. His entry is unusual: in 2009 he is chosen to complete iSecret, the posthumous album of the late Mgqumeni, and its 2010 release makes his name. His own debut, Bahluleke Bonke, follows in 2011, opening a run of commanding, big-voiced maskandi albums.
Isixaxa Samaxoki (2017) is certified gold; 'Ijele', featuring Luve Dubazane, takes Ukhozi FM's Song of the Year with roughly 900,000 listener votes, and 'Umjolo Lowo' repeats the feat, announced in 2024. Angidlali Nezingane (2024) becomes the first maskandi album to top Apple Music South Africa's all-genre chart — Apple contacted him directly about the milestone — while SAMA Best Maskandi Album wins in 2017, 2023 and 2025 bracket the decade. Inhlanhla Izanebhadi arrives in 2025.
