Bio

Kwesta, born Senzo Mfundo Vilakazi in 1988, raps for Katlehong, the East Rand township whose streets supply his subject matter. A high-school poet, he co-founds the group Ghetto Fellas at fifteen before going solo; his 2010 debut Special ReKwest makes him the first South African rapper with seven songs on multiple radio charts in a single year. The voice is gravel, the writing township realism set to kwaito-leaning hip hop.

DaKAR II (2016) becomes South African hip hop's best-selling album — 210,000 copies, certified 7x platinum — powered by 'Ngud'' with Cassper Nyovest and the diamond-certified 'Ngiyaz'fela Ngawe'. 'Spirit', with US rapper Wale, goes platinum. With six SAMAs, four South African Hip Hop Awards and a Forbes Africa 30 Under 30 listing behind him, he releases g.o.d guluva (2021), pairs with Kabza De Small on Speak N Vrostaan (2022), and takes a Metro FM Music Award in 2025.
