Artist

DJ Stokie

DJ Stokie was born Setoki Mbatha in 1983 in Mzimhlophe, Soweto, and belongs to the generation of selectors who carried amapiano from township backyards to national radio. His first exposure came in 2006 on Mad Half Hour, YFM's proving ground for young DJs. Behind the decks and in the studio he favours the unhurried end of the genre: soulful keys, deep bass and vocals given room to breathe. His run of albums tracks the genre's own growth: Amapiano Movement, Vol. 1 (2019), My Journey (2020) and the gold-certified My Journey Continues (2023). 'Masithokoze', his single with Eemoh, earned nominations for Best Song of the Year and Best Amapiano at the 2024 Metro FM Music Awards, alongside 2024 SAMA nominations. Apple Music made him its Isgubhu cover star in July 2024, the year he released Immortal; a fifth album, Shandu Ka Ndaba, followed in November 2025.
