Lady Du

Lady Du, born Duduzile Ngwenya in Vosloorus, was behind the decks long before amapiano existed: the daughter of veteran DJ Choc and niece of DJ Zan D, she started DJing at nine and won her first DJ competition at that age. Her voice — husky, conversational, instantly recognisable — broke through on 'Umsebenzi Wethu' with the late Mpura, 'Woza' featuring Boohle, 'Dakiwe' and 'Catalia'. She released her 20-track debut album Song Is Queen in April 2023 as an independent artist through InGrooves Africa, with 'uZuma Yi Star' certified gold after passing a million Spotify streams, and a Spotify billboard in New York's Times Square marked her part in the genre's international push. In July 2025 she previewed a bubblegum-inspired single that nods to Brenda Fassie, folding South Africa's pop past into its present.
