Artist

Nontokozo Mkhize

Nontokozo Mkhize is a contemporary gospel singer from KwaZulu-Natal who serves a long apprenticeship in other people's bands. From 2017 she works as a backing vocalist for artists including Sjava and Nomfundo Moh, and her 2023 feature on Moh's 'Lu Strong' first puts her voice in front of a national audience. The breakthrough is 'Esandleni', which debuts at number one on Spotify's South Africa chart in early 2025 and sets a record for the most-streamed solo song by a female artist in a single week, passing Adele's mark. She takes Best Newcomer at the 2024 Metro FM Music Awards and Newcomer of the Year at the 2024 Basadi in Music Awards, then Song of the Year and Gospel Artist of the Year at Basadi 2025, plus Best Female Artist in Southern Africa at AFRIMA 2025. Lindiwe (Deluxe), released in October 2025, enters the national Top Albums chart at number eight.
