Bio

De Mthuda is the recording name of Mthuthuzeli Gift Khoza, an amapiano producer and DJ from Vosloorus, east of Johannesburg. He began producing in 2010 while still in high school, leaving in Grade 11 to commit to music full-time, and has worked professionally since 2018. His productions sit at the softer end of amapiano — patient log drums, muted keys and plenty of space — a template heard on 'John Wick' and the 2021 Sir Trill collaboration 'Emlanjeni'.

The gold-certified 2019 single 'Shesha Geza' brought his breakthrough and a Record of the Year nomination at the 2020 South African Music Awards. Albums followed at a steady clip: Ace of Spades with Ntokzin (2020), The Landlord (2021) and Baba Yaga (2024), alongside nominations at the SA Amapiano Awards and the DStv Mzansi Viewers' Choice Awards. In April 2025 he released the 12-track Mthuthuzeli, an album carrying his own first name.
