Bio
Mafikizolo is the Johannesburg duo of songwriter Theo Kgosinkwe and lead vocalist Nhlanhla Mafu, formed in 1996 and working across kwaito, Afro-house and Afro-soul. Songs such as 'Ndihamba Nawe' fix the group at the centre of South African urban pop, and the early years absorb real loss: founding member Tebogo Benedict Madingoane is shot and killed in February 2004.
Sibongile (2002) and Van Toeka Af (2005) establish the name before a hiatus; the 2013 return Reunited carries the hit 'Khona' featuring Uhuru. The honours now number 14 South African Music Awards and two MTV Africa Music Awards, including Best Duo or Group of the Year. The album 20 marks the duo's twentieth anniversary in 2017, and the twelfth studio album Idwala arrives in 2022, the year Kgosinkwe and Mafu mark 25 years of working together.
