Bio

Sam Deep — Samukelo Rorisang Mavuso, from Orlando West, Soweto — trained as a youth footballer before turning to the decks in 2016, at fifteen. His amapiano leans deep: unhurried log drums, jazz chords and soulful vocal features that pull the genre back toward the deep house and kwaito it grew from.

The 2022 singles Kusezo Khanya, with De Mthuda, Babalwa M and Playgal, and the double-platinum Thokoza, with vocalist MaWhoo, established him, and with Stixx and Nvcho he is credited as a pioneer of the offshoot style known as kwapi. In December 2025 he released Who I Am, a 27-track album threading deep house, kwaito, jazz and R&B through amapiano with guests including Bucie and Leemckrazy, and followed it in July 2026 with the Deepla Sauce EP, featuring Focalistic and Zuma.
