Amanda Black is the stage name of Amanda Benedicta Antony, an Afro-soul singer and songwriter from the Eastern Cape. Her apprenticeship is long and public: church choirs from the age of six, talent contests through her teens, three runs at Idols South Africa — reaching the top seven of season eleven — and a music education degree at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University. The music that emerges folds Xhosa lyricism into soul and R&B, measured and rooted.
Her debut album Amazulu (2016) is certified platinum within a month, selling more than 31,000 copies, and in 2017 she takes four South African Music Awards — Album of the Year and Best R&B/Soul/Reggae Album among them — plus two Metro FM Music Awards and a BET Awards nomination. Signed to Sony Music since 2019, she has built out the catalogue with Power (2019), Mnyama (2021) and From My Soil To Yours (2023).

Five years after Mnyama, Amanda Black’s third studio album can finally be judged outside the urgency of its original release campaign. Its endurance makes a stronger argument for catalogue value than any single week of noise ever could.
