Artist

Nadia Nakai

Nadia Nakai raps under the alias Bragga, and the name is a mission statement. Born in Johannesburg to a South African father and a Zimbabwean mother, she studied marketing at Monash University's Johannesburg campus, became the first woman to win the Mixtape 101 competition on e.tv's Shiz Niz, and released her debut single Like Me in 2013. Signing to Family Tree Records in 2016 yielded the Bragga EP and her signature: heavyweight trap production and unapologetic flexing. Her debut album Nadia Naked (June 2019) won Best Female Artist at AFRIMA and Best Female at the South African Hip Hop Awards. She joined Def Jam Africa in May 2020, left Family Tree in 2021, and was named Hip Hop Artist of the Year at the 2023 Basadi in Music Awards. In March 2025 came Braggacy, a 13-track tribute to the late AKA featuring Shekhinah, Zakes Bantwini, Moozlie and Manu WorldStar.
