PAIA Manual
Viranova's manual under section 51 of the Promotion of Access to Information Act — who we are, what records we hold, and how to request access.
About this manual
This manual is published under section 51 of the Promotion of Access to Information Act, 2000 (PAIA). It tells you what records Viranova holds and how to request access to them. It works together with our Privacy Policy and POPIA notice.
The private body
Body: Viranova (the responsible party operating viranova.co.za), operating the Viranova website at viranova.co.za. Viranova is a digital culture and media publication.
Head of the body and Information Officer
PAIA requests are handled by Viranova's Information Officer. Email: support@viranova.co.za. Our postal address is available on request from the Information Officer.
The Regulator's PAIA guide
The Information Regulator has compiled a guide on how to use PAIA. It is available from the Information Regulator (South Africa) at inforegulator.org.za or enquiries@inforegulator.org.za.
Records available without a request
Much of Viranova's information is already public on viranova.co.za — published articles, artist and event pages, editorial and commercial policies, contact details, and forms. You do not need a PAIA request to read anything published on the site.
Categories of records we hold
Subject to the law and to privacy, Viranova may hold: published and draft editorial content; submission, correction, advertising, journalist-application and contact records; newsletter subscriber records; comment records; media uploads; supplier and operational records; and website analytics and security logs.
Records held under other legislation
Viranova may also hold records in line with other laws, including POPIA (personal information), tax and company law where applicable, and the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act.
Personal information we process (POPIA)
Categories of data subjects include readers, subscribers, contributors, form submitters, commenters, advertisers, partners, and staff. The information we hold, the recipients it may be supplied to, and any planned cross-border transfers are described in our Privacy Policy and POPIA notice.
How to request access
To request a record, complete the prescribed PAIA request form and send it to the Information Officer at support@viranova.co.za. Describe the record clearly, identify yourself, state the right you seek to exercise, and tell us how you would like to receive it. The current PAIA forms and any prescribed fees are published by the Information Regulator at inforegulator.org.za.
Fees
PAIA allows a request fee and an access fee for some requests. We will tell you if a fee applies, and what it is, before we process your request, in line with the PAIA fee regulations.
Decisions, refusals and remedies
We will respond within the time PAIA allows and explain any decision. Access may be refused only on the limited grounds PAIA permits — for example, to protect another person's privacy or confidential information. If you are unhappy with a decision, you may complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa) (PAIAComplaints@inforegulator.org.za) or apply to court as PAIA provides.
