TheLastLetter Turns a Lover’s Drunken Switch Into R&B on “Jaded”

There is a particular kind of confusion that comes with loving someone who seems to change depending on what they have consumed.

What happens when the version of someone you love most only appears once the intoxication wears off?

For TheLastLetter, that emotional split became the starting point for “Jaded,” her new R&B single arriving on Thursday, 27 August 2026. The track features Indigo Stella and Rashè, with production from Wichi1080.

Rather than treating intoxication as background scenery, “Jaded” places it at the centre of the relationship. The song is written from the perspective of someone who has become familiar with a partner’s behaviour when they are drunk or high — and, beneath it, senses a deeper unhappiness that keeps pulling them back towards those states. Indigo Stella extends that idea through a melodic rap contribution that, according to the release, carries the same emotional tension.

What makes the record more interesting is that the premise did not begin as an abstract songwriting exercise.

TheLastLetter traces its inspiration to a former relationship and one particular night when she encountered the person while he was drunk. She describes him as unpleasant while intoxicated, only for his personality to soften considerably as he sobered up. Once they began dating, she says she started recognising the same contrast in their calls and messages depending on whether he was sober or drunk.

That observation becomes the emotional engine of “Jaded”: not simply frustration with somebody drinking, but the unsettling experience of feeling as though you are dealing with two versions of the same person.

A Song Born From a Room Full of Artists

The record also came out of a deliberately collaborative environment.

TheLastLetter says she organised a music camp that brought together artists and producers including Indigo Stella, Wichi1080, Tobi from 59th, Prince Luwi, LD Beats, The FrlknFndlrs and Juni Kobe. The group gathered at La Fabrica HQ for three days of writing, production and collaboration.

“Jaded” emerged from one of those sessions, with TheLastLetter working in a room alongside Wichi1080, eX the Artist, Indigo Stella and Rashè. Wichi1080 built the production around which the record took shape.

It is the kind of setting that makes sense for a song built around perspective. TheLastLetter establishes the emotional premise, but the collaborators allow that feeling to move through different voices rather than remain locked inside a single point of view.

Back to the Beginning

There is also a thread connecting “Jaded” to an earlier chapter of TheLastLetter’s music.

The release positions the new single as an almost spiritual continuation of “The Void,” her first single from 2018. In that song, she similarly used alcohol as a metaphor for intimacy, imagining her love as something capable of becoming the source of intoxication itself.

Eight years later, “Jaded” returns to that imagery from a more complicated place.

The alcohol metaphor is no longer only romantic. It has consequences. It creates distance between two people and exposes the uncomfortable question sitting underneath the song: what happens when the version of someone you love most only appears once the intoxication wears off?

Even the visual world surrounding the single reinforces that idea. The official cover shows TheLastLetter looking into her reflection across a pool of water — imagery the creative concept connects to a “pool full of liquor” and the recurring alcohol theme running through the record. The press photography was shot and edited by Henry Moyo, with creative direction and styling by TheLastLetter.

It gives “Jaded” a fitting visual metaphor: someone staring down into a surface, looking for clarity while everything underneath remains distorted.

With the new single, TheLastLetter is not simply returning to R&B. She is returning to an idea that has followed her since the beginning — love as intoxication — and allowing nearly a decade of experience to complicate what that metaphor can mean.
