Babalwa M, born Babalwa Mavuso on 25 January 1994 in Soweto, rose to prominence through her 2020 EP Bayeke with producer Kelvin Momo and is widely described as the 'Queen of Private School Amapiano'. She won Amapiano Artist of the Year at the 2025 Basadi in Music Awards, and her 2025 album Acquiesce earned a SAMA nomination for Best Amapiano Album.
