Kelvin Momo

Thato Kelvin Ledwaba grows up in Diepkloof, Soweto, and produces as Kelvin Momo, the name most closely tied to "private school" amapiano: a soulful, jazz-inflected strain of the genre built on deep house chords and lounge textures rather than raw drums. He surfaces in 2019 with singles such as "Abantu Bethu" and "Yelele", then releases his debut album, Momo's Private School, in 2020 on Kabza De Small's Piano Hub label. Amukelani (2022) wins Best Amapiano Album at the 2023 Metro FM Music Awards; Kurhula (2023) and Sewe (2024) consolidate the run. Ntsako breaks national Spotify streaming records within eleven days of release and takes Best Amapiano Album at SAMA31 in December 2025, by which point his studio albums have passed a collective twenty million streams. The sound he refined from Soweto now sets amapiano's contemplative register.
